Cable & Wireless Communications PLC
NYNEX Cablecomms PLC was acquired by Cable & Wireless Communications PLC on April 28th 1997 and merged with three other companies, Videotron, Mercury and Bell Cablemedia. The four companies formed the new CWC and became the largest cable telecoms operator, closely followed by Telewest and the original manifestation of NTL.
CWC had a far greater emphasis on telephony and the newly emerging internet product range. In 2000 it launched digital cable TV ahead of the other operators, which itself opened up massively expanded potential in TV entertainment vs. traditional analogue based technology.
Notable for the yellow branding its marketing engine was formidable.
